get targeted by ethereum thieves with fake MyEtherWallet apps.
The craze for
crypto currency in the society is increasing by the day. The most prominent
consequence of this craze is that people nowadays are more interested in
downloading a wallet on their phones. This paves way to the scammers. As it
seems that they have found a way to exploit this trend, and are now actively
seeking opportunity to dupe gullible ethereum holders with malicious MyEtherWallet Support Number
copycats on Google play.
Lukas
Stefanko, a malware researcher has taken his twitter handle to warn users about
the malicious instance of the popular ethereum wallet that is currently being
distributed on google’s official mobile software platform- android. And told
that once it is installed the shady copycat ask the user to fill in their
private key to log in.
Lukas’s tweet
said “there is a fake MyEtherWallet on Google play that
requires user’s private key or mnemonic phrase to log in.
BTW there isn’t any official MyEtherWallet yet.”
As per Google
play’s data this malicious myetherwallert instance first made its way to the
platform on January 18. Since then it has been downloaded between 100 to 500
times.
Fortunately number
of users could figure out that the app is malicious and is seeking to phish
their private key.
One specific
concern of this scam is that the malicious app have stacked a decent rating of
3.8 stars at the time of writing with more than 30 positive reviews.
Vitalik
Buterin, founder of ethereum have asked users to be extra carefulif someone is
posing as the original wallet asking them to send funds.
After this
the fraudulent copycats of popular exchange binance which seeks to turn users
into affiliates.
Hence
important tip for the users is that pay attention to the apps that you download
and remember to never share your private key.
